Argosy Casino Expansion Funds Climb to $310 Million

The budget plan for the expansion plans for Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg increased $44 million to $310 million. Penn National Gaming Inc. is beefing up the expansion and will be adding a 30-table poker room. Penn National released its quarterly report this week with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

From an original plan of opening the casino on the second quarter of 2008 the opening will be pushed back on the fourth quarter of that same year.

The existing three-level barge that contains 74,300 square feet of gambling space with 2,400 slot machines and 86 table games was to be replaced by Penn with a new two-story 250,000 square-foot barge to be opened in the fourth quarter of 2008.

The new plan will have a room for up to 4,000 gambling positions at slot machines and gaming tables on the first floor and on the second floor will be space for 400 more gambing positions.

In the Greater Cincinnati market, Argosy is the biggest of the three riverboat casinos and accounts for more than half of their total wagers and gambling revenues.

Penn said, the current estimate of construction and environment are also reflected on the increased $310 million budget.
